Interview with Julie, Inmate's Sister, Houston, Claire, Jim, Inmate's Mom, Smyth, Ken, Charlene, Greg, GMan, Jamie and Leisha
JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications? Julie: did not need any Inmate's Sister: yes tylenol or advil Houston: Yes. Claire: I never took meds, but it seemed like there was no problems with
other inmates having access to their meds. Jim: yes when medical finally gets it straight. It
costs each inmate for medical services. If you
dont have money they will put it on your account
and when you do get money they take it first
before you make commissary. Inmate's Mom: Yes, after the officers beat him up they did let
him go to the infirmary. Smyth: Yes, you were allowed to get your medicine. Ken: Did not apply Charlene: no Greg: none. GMan: Not applicable Jamie: no Leisha: NO, MEDICAL TREAT YOU LIKE YO AIN'T SHIT
JM: How did you get your medications? Julie: They were brought to u by nurse Inmate's Sister: nurse Houston: A cart that came by and called your name. Claire: The infirmary would send around a cart to each pod. Jim: the nurse goes to each cell house Smyth: Stand in line while guards tell you what a
failure you are. Charlene: I went through med clinic for the inmates, but
never got all of my medications. They even told
me it would take 30 days to receive all my
medications. Greg: through the person in charge called the rep, she
helped me with everything. GMan: Not applicable Jamie: nurse Leisha: PILL CART
JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Julie: No one in my house had that problem from what i
noticed Inmate's Sister: lockdown Houston: Dont know Claire: I wouldn't know first hand, but I could imagine that the
punishment would have been pretty severe. Jim: THEY LOCK YOU DOWN IN SEG Smyth: You would probably be given another County case
to be responsible for as soon as your sentence
was up. Charlene: Public humiliation from officers Greg: lockdown I assume. GMan: Not applicable Jamie: ------------- Leisha: LOST OF PRIVILIDGES
I may be in the HC jail and need medication for heart bypass and stint. Plavix for the stint to keep it open. My heart Dr. said I need this every day for the rest of my life. How long will it take before I receive this medication if I go to HC jail? Thanks

Just as I expected. My 20 yr. old son is in County and he has had no medication for 48 hrs. He is mentally ill, with a variety of problems. HIPPA prohibits jail employees from discussing with me, and I cannot find out how he is. Everyone I have ever talked to about Harris County Jail has had nothing but BAD to say about the jail. I hope no other mother ever has to go through this with their "special needs" child.

My life partner will spend time in Harris county for approx. 1 month (I hope). He's Bi-Polar and I'm very concerned about his having access to meds. Can he take his medications with him during the inprocessing? I'm certain there's medical staff and MHMR services. How soon can he recieve the care he requires?

Smyth is obviously a troublemaker, you think the guards really have nothing better to do than just randomly call inmates failures? You kill someone, or rape a child, don't expect to be treated like a king. IT'S JAIL PEOPLE!!

i have IBD or Colitis, and went through medical. It took me at least 48 hours before I got to see the doctor. There are meds that I have to take on a daily basis, and the guards didnt care one bit. My condition also causes me to go #2 quite often which is a hassle, because everyone ues the TP for a pillow. The guards are assholes and just work their 9-5. Im a decent person. a "white boy" if you will whose past just caught up with me. I still got treated like crap! The conditions are intolerable! Ever POW's shouldnt be in those conditions. County jail is pure hell

Have the inmates family call the jail medical department and if at all possible, take copies of his medical records to the jail. I would also notify the chaplain's office and the medical department directly. Remember, Harris county jails have over 8,000 inmates and many of them claim medical problems in order to get attention. Sometimes people with real problems get lost in the crowd. Be polite, but call every day if necessary to make sure he receives treatment.

I agree completely - you should call up the jail and tell them the situation (this isn't an actual jail site, it's just a site that shares information about the jail)

you are right that they dont care i was there for about 6 months just released from the hospital to be transferred to HCJ. I had been in the hosp. for 4 months prior. Anyway i was treated vey bad I had several broken bones from neck down and was still in casts. I had to be cleaned and sometimes I was left for several hours dirty and unmedicated. One time I had a pain so severe that I couldn't stop crying and I was thrown into seg. I was lucky though that my cellie had my phone number to my home and notified my family, later it was determined that I had a severe infection in one of my bones and it poisnous to my body. So dont think that you will get medical care in there because you won't it was a terrible experience. I have recently been released from prison and believe me it's no better!!!!!
