Well, SOMEONE at Harris County tried the old *72 trick on me today. I did not fall for it, but made him believe I did. He says he is a deputy and I can have my number removed from the computer by calling *721 blah blah blah then his secretary will take care of it, but that I MUST dial exacxtly the way he says. In case no one knows the *72 farwards ALL of your calls to that phone number... let them know your business and steal your identity as well.... think about it! I think that ALL inmate calls should be monitored by a deputy at all times, but who knows it might be a deputy doing it?????? by the way I live over 500 miles from Houston.

I received the infamous payphone scam from Harris County Jail and I am approx 250 miles away. This needs to be investigated on a higher level. Whether this is inmates or staff, it needs to be taken care of.
Stupid thing is, when they called this number they didn't realize they were calling the house of a police officer. Dumb move.

11-13-08 I received a phone call from the Harris County Jail. Message said not to dial *72 because I may be charged additional monies. By answering the phone I was charged $3.25 I think; but they called again, so I answered thinking it may be a family member. The supposed officer said to punch in *72 so I can get a refund from his secretary but I did not because the previous message said not to due to extra charges. I need to sue the Harris County Jail to get my money back. I dialed the number he gave me 832-785-45__ and the girl did not know anything about it. Is the officer correct or is it a scam being played by someone or the City to get money. Who can I call?

The exact same thing happened to me that happened to "almost duped" Some inmate from Harris County Prison kept calling my home numerous times about 3-5 and I finally picked up at the end, the inmate on the other line, who sounded very uneducated, asked me if I wanted him to charge the phone companies so that it wouldn't cost me a dime, which was strange to me because how could an inmate at a Prison house have access to so many calls and just be allowed to do such things, this was obviously a scam, so I declined the offer, and now I'm afraid this inmate might come after me what should I do?

Wow. I've denied over a dozen collect calls today and some inmate keeps calling back. I've resisted the temptation to fund someone else's long distance bill so far, but perhaps I'll cave in after 20 tries? Not so bright. I suppose this is how they ended up in there.
